The Ice Driver FAQ
Every good web site has to have one, so here’s the Ice Driver FAQ page. Got a question that you can’t find the answer to? Drop us a line here and we’ll get right back to you.
Q. Why ‘Ice Driver’ and not ‘Winter Rally School’?
A. Because Ice Driving is a great activity and regardless of your preference for racing, rallying or even neither, the surface and the track we create is a great place to have fun and learn. “Rally School” sounds too formal and specific. If a circuit driver like touring car champion like Priaulx comes to us, you can be sure there’s more to it than rally cars
Q. What do you teach and is it like going to school?
A. Definately not like school as we recall it! We’re here to have fun, above all else and we make sure you do too. Our instructing style is direct and practical rather than theoretical, the emphasis being on driving the car rather than visualisation and phsycology.
Q. So don’t you consider physcology important in driving?
A. Absolutely, just look at the utter dominance of Sebastien Loeb in World Rally right now. His competitor’s body language speaks volumes of the mental hold he has over them. But we don’t call ourselves ‘driving gurus’, nor do we develop your ‘life skills’, there are lots of books to read about that.
Q. Will my driving style and experience suit Ice Driving?
A. Yes. We don’t impose a new driving style on you, instead we look at your styles and preferences and work to imporove weak areas
Q. It looks like a really long way, how long does it take to get there?
A. Not long at all, simply fly into Oslo Gardemoen airport and we will pick you up and take you to our hotel and lake, this takes 90 minutes by car.
Q. What’s included in the price?
A. See our pages on this for full details. Basically, everything but your airline ticket and bar bill! contact Alison for more details (alison@icedriver.co.uk)
Q. How fast will I be driving?
A. A lot faster than you think! The frozen lake surface we drive on is, as you’d expect, very slippery. In fact, you can barely stand on it in places. But the Ice Driver cars are all fitted with World Rally Championship ice tyres, just 5 inches wide and with aggresive titanium studs. Don’t let anyone roll a tyre towards you, it hurts! They give a level of grip similar to wet tarmac and our track is 2kms long and around 20 metres wide, just like a race circuit.
