Travel Information
Ice Driver takes place in a remote and beautiful part of Sweden. While you don’t need to be Ray Mears to get here, there are some simple things to consider when packing that will help you get the best from stay with us. Some will be quite obvious, but others are the things you only realise once you’re here and it’s too late!
The daytime temperature is zero or below, dropping to -35 at night. The dry atmosphere means the snow is nothing like the sloppy stuff you see in the UK, it’s lovely winter sports type powder.
Here’s A List Of Things to Bring:
Lots of layers that can be easily added and removed.
A silly hat and some gloves.
Normal footwear for driving plus something with a grippy sole for general walking.
If you’ve a pair of cool Sparco boots for driving in, they’re about as warm as in-flight slippers when you’re standing on a frozen lake, so bring something with a thicker sole for when you’re not driving.
Sunglasses for the glare from the lake.
Sun cream and lip balm.
If you’re coming from the UK, obtain an E-111 card if you don’t already have one from The post Office or online from The Department of Health here>>> . This ensures free health care anywhere in the EU.
Video cameras and digital cameras! And don’t forget the spare batteries and memory cards – cards are cheap, so shoot lots of pictures
Like any truly great holiday destination, the location of Ice Driver takes a little effort to get to. This guide will help you prepare for Ice Driver and provides some useful tips on booking travel. We’re often asked which is the best way to travel to us from Stockholm – by train or plane. So the following section has been specially written to explain the differences between the two and will help you to decide
Your initial destination in Sweden is Stockholm Ardanda airport. This serves as a hub for your onward travel. We recommend travelling north from Stockholm Arlanda airport using the Intercity Ski Train from within the airport, though if you wish, you can fly on to Ostersund Airport where we can meet you. Rail travel in Sweden is clean and efficient and often flying is false ecomony once you factor in the security hassles and wasted waiting around time.
Option 1.
Arrive at Stockholm Arlanda airport, schedule your flight to arrive around lunchtime. After passing through Arivals, make your way towards Sky City and the signs for Arlanda C station. Collect your tickets from the machine and take the escalator to the station platform. Relax on the Intercity train until you arrive at the station of Bräcke. We’ll be there to collect you. Typical train time is 4 hours.
Option 2.
Arrive at Stockholm Arlanda airport, schedule your flight to arrive around lunchtime. Take an onward flight to Ostersund airport where we will meet you for a road transfer to the hotel. Road journey time is 1 hour. Typical journey time 4 hours including waiting around, luggage collections etc.
Everyone’s instinctive reaction is to fly. However, there’s little to choose in the total journey time, so it comes down to personal preference. We will collect you from either location.
